Most Australian visa application charges rose by about 25% on 1 July 2026. As of October 2026, a Student visa costs AUD 2,500, a Skills in Demand (482) visa AUD 4,015, a Temporary Graduate (485) visa AUD 5,750, permanent skilled visas about AUD 6,140, and a partner visa AUD 11,710 for the main applicant. The tables below list current charges from the Home Affairs visa pricing table, with the previous fee where it could be confirmed.
Key points
- New charges apply to applications lodged on or after 1 July 2026, under the Home Affairs Legislation Amendment (2026 Measures No. 1) Regulations 2026.
- Where both figures are confirmed, the rise is about 25% (for example Student AUD 2,000 to AUD 2,500; 186 AUD 4,910 to AUD 6,140).
- The 485 rose twice in 2026: AUD 2,300 to AUD 4,600 on 1 March, then AUD 5,750 on 1 July.
- Nomination fees, sponsorship fees and the SAF levy were reported as unchanged.
- Eligible citizens of Pacific countries and Timor-Leste pay lower charges for many visas.
All figures are in Australian dollars, for the main applicant, read from the Home Affairs visa pricing table on 11 October 2026. “Before” figures come from Fragomen’s July 2026 summary or, for the 485, the March 2026 regulations. A dash means we could not confirm the old fee from a reliable source.

Citizenship fees
Citizenship fees are set under a different law and changed on 1 July 2026. As of 11 October 2026, the Home Affairs citizenship pages showed figures that did not match other published information, so we are not listing a citizenship fee until Home Affairs confirms it on its own site. Check the amount in ImmiAccount when you apply. Our Australian citizenship guide explains the requirements.
Other costs not included in the visa fee
The visa application charge is not the whole cost. Budget for:
- health examinations and police certificates
- biometrics, where requested
- English tests and skills assessments
- Overseas Student Health Cover or other health insurance
- translation of documents
- employer nomination and sponsorship fees and the SAF levy (for employer-sponsored visas)
- Assurance of Support bonds (for parent and some other family visas)
- professional fees if you use a registered migration agent
How to pay the right fee
- Check the live price in the Visa Pricing Estimator on the day you plan to lodge.
- Count every applicant. Additional applicants pay their own charge.
- Check whether a second instalment applies (parent visas, the 870 and some skilled visas).
- Lodge and pay in ImmiAccount. The charge in force on the day you lodge a valid application is the one that applies.
- Expect indexation each July. Australian visa and citizenship charges are usually reviewed on 1 July. We will update this page when they change.
What to do next
- Bookmark the Home Affairs pricing table and our updates page.
- Plan the full cost of your pathway with the Australia hub.
- If you are unsure which visa or stream applies to you, speak to a registered migration agent before paying, as visa charges are generally not refunded if an application is refused.
